Camp, Camp, Wherever You May Be

In order to provide our camp families with the opportunity to ensure that our Camp Camp Wherever You May Be program fits best within summer plans, we are offering two tiers of programs: the Basic Program and the Plus Program.

The Basic Program includes 2 hours and 5 minutes of programming each day from Monday to Friday, including the following.

  • Mhorning Has Broken: a morning devotion to start the day
  • Cabin Time: promote and build peer-level connections with a small group of campers of the same age, facilitated by two Cairn Cabin Leaders
  • Activity: one of two activities that have been designed to engage campers based on their age and appealing to a variety of interests (details below)
  • Campfire: music is such a big part of Cairn’s culture, so campfire gives the opportunity for campers to learn new songs and sing old camp favourites

The Plus Program includes 3 hours and 25 minutes of programming each day from Monday to Friday. It includes all of the Basic Program elements, listed above, as well as the following:

  • An additional hour-long activity every day (total of two hour-long activities)

 July Week 1: July 6-10, 2020

Party Planners (age 7-12)
Let’s celebrate! Our Party Planners will spend their week crafting and creating all of the elements that make a good party - including deciding what it is that they will be celebrating! Campers will design eye-catching invitations, create themed decorations, and ensure all elements of their party are planned and ready for Friday, when they’ll be hosting the party they’ve planned for those at home!

Games Games Games (age 7-9)
Bring your sense of fun and competitive spirit for a week full of games! Ranging from charades to scavenger hunts to I-Spy challenges, campers will have the chance to express their creativity, quick wits, and good sportsmanship while earning points for their team through each game they play. Looking forward to the camaraderie, the laughter, and the fun!

Science Creations (age 10-12)
Curiosity sparks imagination and creativity, as we conduct a variety of crafty experiments this week. Science Creations provides a hands-on experience for our scientist apprentices to predict, problem-solve, and make discoveries while crafting their creations each day.

Entrepreneurs (age 13-16)
Do you have a brilliant idea of a product you would love to see in the world? What about a service that will fill a need within your community? Just like in shows like Dragon’s Den or Shark Tank, our entrepreneurs will design a product or service that fills a niche in their world, then determine how best to bring it to the market. Their work over the week will culminate when they make their pitch to The Panel on Friday. So: what will your innovative business idea be?

The Ultimate Game Show (age 13-16)
Let your dreams of being on a TV game show become reality! Teens will compete in a variety of game show challenges each day, earning points for their team throughout the week. Bring your competitive spirit and openness for a good challenge, and let the Ultimate Game Show begin!

 July Week 2: July 13-17, 2020

Design your Dream Camp (age 7-12)
“I wish we could do _____________ at camp.” What would you put in that blank space? At Design your Dream Camp, campers will conceptualize, craft and construct all elements of camp: from activities and meals, to how the space is laid out, and even what items are in the tuck shop! With no limits and no boundaries - how would you design YOUR dream camp?

Just Dance (age 7-9)
Calling all campers who want to move and groove together! Join a group of campers and our extraordinary staff as we learn how to move our bodies together. Campers will learn classic dance moves, and of course will have the chance to create their own. Together, campers will create and practice a dance routine that they will share at the end of the week!

Baking (age 10-12)
It’s always fun to create some tasty treats! Throughout the week, campers will receive an orientation to working in the kitchen safely, will learn basic baking skills, and then will put those skills into practice as they learn to bake a new recipe each day, ranging from muffins to the Cairn-favourite Congo Bars. These novice bakers will be delighted to share their delicious creations - and have one or two them themselves, of course!

Pay It Forward (age 13-16)
Now, more than ever, our world needs leaders who are invested in serving others and humbly paying it forward in their communities. We believe that this is possible even from a distance. In our PIF camp, teens will engage in meaningful discussions about what it means to support those in need, and will take action collaboratively and individually to drive positive change around them.

Top Chef (age 13-16)
Join us in Top Chef for the chance to connect with other teens that want to take a more active role in the kitchen and add life-long culinary skills to their toolbox. Campers will create a new tasty product each day, with newfound confidence and competence in the kitchen, building their skill to create a full three-course meal by the end of the week that they will share with everyone at home.

Campers and staff together will create a list of tasks and challenges they want to conquer, like “let’s see if we can carry a book on a spaghetti-and-marshmallow tower”. Then campers will work together to tinker, experiment, and attempt to successfully complete as many challenges as they can.
