An Overview of Cairn's Camp Programs

(Click here to jump to the 2023 Summer Camp Schedule)

All of Cairn's camp programs are designed for campers to experience God's love in an inclusive faith community, while creating opportunities to foster growth and create connections throughout their time at camp. Here is some more information about each of Cairn's Camp Programs:

Glen Mhor Program: A unit-based program, campers participate in camp activities with their cabin group, comprised of up to 8 campers and 2 counsellors. Campers participate in a variety of waterfront, adventure, arts, and nature activities, as well as special themed events based on the theme of the week's session.

Iona Tripping Program: A wilderness canoe tripping program for campers with all levels of experience, facilitated by a Head Tripper and Trip Counsellor. Campers learn a variety of tripping skills, including canoeing, portaging, cooking over a fire, and setting up a campsite, all while participating in creative and imaginative play, immersed in the natural surroundings of Ontario's backcountry.

Integration Program: An opportunity for campers living with disabilities to experience the joy and community of summer camp. Participants are partnered with a 1:1 support counsellor who promotes inclusion within their cabin, and provides for any additional needs the camper may have. Please note that there is a 1:1 support fee ($325/week) as well as the program fee indicated in the schedule below. For all first-time integration participants, an intake call with the Camp Director is required prior to confirming their registration.

  • Age 5-16: Kids and teens attend a Glen Mhor camp program where the integration program is offered (indicated in the schedule below). Just like all the other kids, campers will sleep in a cabin and attend activities with the rest of their cabin-mates, with support from their 1:1 counsellor.
  • Age 17+: Cairn's Adult Integration program is a program for adults to participate in outdoor recreation while gaining workplace experience by supporting a variety of elements of Cairn’s program.

Leader in Training Program: A four-week leadership program for 16-17 year olds, designed to create intentional, empathetic leaders. LITs learn how to serve those they lead, refining skills they already possess while identifying and enhancing new areas of growth. Participants come away with both knowledge and experience of how to be both an effective camp staff member and leader in their community at home.

Throughout the week, PIFs earn between 25 and 30 community service hours that can be put towards their high school diploma requirements. Week 2: July 16-22

Tracks (age 7-16)
This week follows a camper-choice model of camp programming, where campers have the opportunity to choose two "tracks", or activities that they get to choose themselves. Campers' Tracks give them the chance to delve deeper into their favourite parts of camp, which means they get to their favourite camp activities every day! Different Tracks activities will be designed for junior, intermediate, and teen campers, so everything is tailored to an age-appropriate level - for example arts and crafts for Juniors, bushcraft for Intermediates, and fine art for Teens. Campers will also participate in classic Glen Mhor activities in their cabin groups and enjoy all that camp has to offer! Click here to register.

Massasauga Provincial Park - Teen Canoe Trip (age 14-16)
Get ready to navigate the waters of Georgian Bay in this Massasauga canoe trip for teens! Designed for novice and experienced trippers alike, campers will be refreshed on basic canoe techniques prior to their departure from camp, then will head out for a five-day canoe trip, ending at the beautiful Moon Falls. Canoe tripping provides the opportunity for campers to build strong connections and relationships with their fellow campers through learning new skills, overcoming physical challenges, being immersed in the natural beauty of Ontario's rivers and lakes, and experiencing the epitome of small-group unit-based camping -all while being guided by the two Cairn trippers. Can't wait to see you on the water! Click here to register.

Week 3: July 23-29

Outrageous (age 7-13)
Welcome to a week unlike any other! Unexpected twists and silly fun are what define this camp program. Campers have the chance to influence the outrageous activities, putting their wacky ideas forward and have them drawn randomly throughout the week. In previous years, Outrageous camp has seen themed meals, like a pajama meal or a wacky hair meal; a camp-wide backwards day; and a truly outrageous messy afternoon that featured paint, whipped cream, and slime. One thing is for sure: camp is about to get OUTRAGEOUS. Click here to register.

Week 3&4 (2-week Teen Program): July 23 - August 4

Explore - Teen Introductory Leadership Program (age 14-15)
A program for aspiring leaders, Explore is a two-week session for high-school-age teen campers who are curious to learn more about themselves and how to lead with empathy and purpose. Through team-building initiatives and skills-based programming, Explore will create opportunities for personal- and team-based exploration and discovery. Whether campers are hoping to continue into the Leader in Training (LIT) program, or for those who want to better understand their role as a leader within their community, this program will provide a foundation for how to be a thoughtful, servant leader. Explore invites teens to contribute to a positive teen community at camp this summer! Click here to register.
** Please note that is a two-week session, and pick-up is on Friday August 4th

Leader in Training: July 9 - August 4

Cairn’s Leader in Training program develops extraordinary leaders in today’s world. LITs will spend a month together learning the ins and outs of both how to be an effective camp staff member, and what it takes to be a leader and make positive changes to the world beyond camp. These young leaders will build community on a five day canoe trip, develop swimming skills to attain Bronze Medallion or Bronze Cross qualifications, and choose in-depth skills workshops to develop their practical leadership skills. LITs have the opportunity to shadow a variety of camp staff positions to learn about site & facilities, kitchen, and counselling roles at camp. Throughout the four-week program, the LITs will participate in sessions that their LIT Program Coordinators design for their unique group to help them become effective leaders individually and as a collective. LITs look back at this experience as an amazing month full of fun, faith, and friendship. Click here to register.
