Family Camp in the Glen Mhor Programme
In the middle of the summer, the Glen Mhor Programme opens it's doors to families for a special weekend. Family Camp, which runs over the long weekend between July and August, is a great opportunity for the entire family to come to camp, play together and go home with great memories.Families can stay in the camp cabins or can bring camping gear (trailers, tents, etc) to stay in our playing field. Either way, our families are treated to a weekend of fun. We open up all of the camp activities (climbing wall, archery, swimming, canoeing, etc.), have a campfire every night (where the staff leads songs and skits) and have epic, entertaining and informative announcements at every meal. All meals are provided by our Kitchen staff, who work very hard to provide lots of choice at every sitting. We can accommodate special diets, and there is always coffee available. During your stay, each family is assigned a “counsellor” to act as a liaison, friend and babysitter. This is important, because Sunday night is a parents and adults only night and the staff will look after all of the kids (with bedtime stories, songs, and supervision).Family Camp is one of the most special times of the summer. It gives us a chance to get to know our camp families, it provides us an opportunity to “show off” our great facilities and programming, and it gives our families a chance to enjoy a weekend away from home where there is no cooking, very little cleaning and plenty of opportunity to read a book on the dock.
Schedule
The families arrive Friday evening after dinner to register and are treated to snack and campfire. Staff will be available to help set-up tents, carry gear to cabins and entertain children while all of this is happening.Saturday is a very busy day, with activities happening all the time. Everyone is encouraged to sign up for activities, and the choices are plentiful. Parents do not have to go to the same events as their children, though many choose to. To help you get through the day, we serve three meals and a snack.
Breakfast – 8:00
Lunch – 12:30
Dinner – 5:30
Snack – 8:30
At the end of the day, there is a campfire programme that includes many camp songs, stories and skits. Feel free to go straight to be, or stay up and gaze up into the huge Muskoka sky and count the stars.Sunday runs similarly to Saturday, except there is special programming in the afternoon for the children and the activities are all reserved for adults. The kids will be entertained by staff and adults can feel free to try out any of our programme areas.Sunday night is Glen Mhor Presents, and this is a highlight every year. Glen Mhor Presents (Family Camp Edition) is a talent show, celebration of camp and an opportunity for lots of laughter, singing and applause. Some families work year round to perfect their routines, others are inspired at the last moment to great feats of silliness and tremendous impromptu performances. If you are not the performance type, feel free to bring your camera and sing along.Monday morning is departure, as the real world beckons our families home. Breakfast is served, the Tuck Shop is opened for souvenirs and we say a sad goodbye (at least until next year).
