About Us

The 4 S's Test

Safety   Stewardship   Servanthood   Self-Esteem

All activities at Cairn (for campers, staff and visitors) are approved only after they pass the 4 S's Test.

In order to do any activity at Cairn you must be able to answer yes to ALL FOUR questions: Is it SAFE? Does it promote good STEWARDSHIP of God's creation? Does it SERVE others in the community? Does it enhance a person's SELF-ESTEEM?

Campership Fund

It is our firm belief that no camper should ever miss out on an opportunity to come to camp for financial reasons. For this reason, the Carol Jean Bath Memorial Campership Fund was created. Cairn will sponsor up to half of the cost of coming to camp and we will help families find the rest of the funding if it is needed.

Families interested in additional support should apply to the Campership by filling in our online form.

To contribute to this fund, which recognizes Carol's commitment to the children at camp, please contact our Co-Directors – Travis Allison ("Zoic") and Beth Allison ("Topaz").

TLC (Talking & Learning in Christ)

Our campers benefit from a long tradition of Bible study programmes custom-tailored for each age group. The message of the Gospel is shared with our campers through games, drama, crafts and music. Campers participate daily in TLC (Talking and Learning in Christ) with their individual cabin groups, providing them with a comfortable environment in which to ask questions and share their thoughts and feelings. Once a week, the entire camp gathers for a camp-wide TLC session in which we learn, praise and celebrate our faith together as a community.

Partnerships

The Presbyterian Church in Canada

Cairn (home of Glen Mhor & Iona) is also a long-standing partner in the Camping Ministry of the Presbyterian Church in Canada. Since our inception in 1930 (see Our History for more detail), the Synod of Central, Northeastern Ontario and Bermuda (formerly Toronto- Kingston) has overseen the workings of our ever-growing organization.

Ontario Camping Association

We are proud to be an accredited member of the Ontario Camping Association (OCA). We exceed the more than 300 stringent standards in the categories of health, safety, staffing, training, programming and transportation. Membership in the OCA ensures families that camps like Cairn participate in the highest possible standards for safety, professionalism in business and excellence in programming for their children.

Reach for the Rainbow

Cairn is thankful that we have been able to help Reach for the Rainbow provide an integrated summer camp here since the late 1980's. Dozens of children and young adults with special needs have enriched our lives at Cairn every summer.

Reach for the Rainbow develops integrated opportunites that enrich the lives of children and young adults with disabilities, their families and the communities in which they belong.

The Brochet Exchange

It gives us great pleasure to be a continuing partner in the Brochet Exchange, a programme for Native youth from northern Manitoba. Started by Angela "Judd" Johnstone, one of the many Cairn alumni who is doing interesting things these days, the Exchange helps 4 children from Brochet, Manitoba come to rural Nova Scotia for a summer to learn about life in the south.

The Brochet Exchange is a Charitable Organization that represents the cooperation of two different cultures and communities in Canada: a remote northern Aboriginal community, and a small southern farming village. We are working together to make Canada accessible for the Aboriginal youth of Brochet, and to promote a better understanding of both of these cultures.

Church Visits

For more information, Adam "Taps" Brown and Chantal "Match" Jackson are available for local church visits.
