Our Thoughts on Missing Home
Since Cairn began in 1930, we have never had a single camper with homesickness.
That’s because we don’t believe that missing home is a sickness.
Missing home is a natural part of growing up.
Even for adults, it’s just a part of being human.
Like the mother or father who misses home during a long business trip.
It’s not a sickness – it’s just missing home.
So we don’t deal with homesickness;
we deal with missing home.
We help our campers to face and understand how they feel.
We tell them it’s a very natural feeling.
And that it’s OK.
Then they come out of it.
We’re good at this; we’ve been doing it since 1930.
(Our Thanks to Steven R. Cony for helping us think of this in a different way.)
