Our Site & Facilities
Established in 1969 as Camp Boulderwood, the present site of Cairn is situated immediately south of the famous Lake of Bays in the Muskoka District.
Camp Boulderwood was a camp for Toronto children run by the University Association. The Synod of Toronto and Kingston purchased the site and the first Glen Mhor sessions ran in Baysville in 1978 (for further information see Our History).
We are situated on the northwest side of Echo Lake with 4,800 feet of waterfront, so it is easy to see why water activities are so important in our day-to-day camp life. With constant improvements since the purchase of the property, we now have 18 modern buildings including 12 camper cabins, the Lodge, Avalon (Creation's Quest Headquarters and Museum of Nature), the Fox Den (our arts and crafts centre), the Thicket (Cairn's year round office), the Haven (where the Glen Mhor programme Resource Staff live in the summer), Baywatch and the Lighthouse, and Panama (staff living quarters). We hope to soon add two new buildings, including new winterized staff accommodation that will be available for rent in the off-season.
The Iona programme has a large yurt for a Dainy Ray building (rainy day building) and 4 units of platform tents. The "T" dock is home to the canoe instruction programme and swimming.
We are excited to be involved in the Ontario government's Managed Forest Programme, joining with like-minded conservationists in preserving the natural heritage of our property.
