Our Iona Activities - Hey Kids, Look Here!
Swimming
Swimming at Iona means splashing in beautiful Echo Lake! The water is warm and there is an area for swimming where the canoes can't interfere. Qualified Life Guards make sure everyone stays safe and lessons are given to anyone who wants to improve his or her swimming.
Canoeing
One of the most important Iona traditions is Canoeing. That traditions continues! At Iona there is an opportunity to canoe every day. You will use canoes to get your food, to go on overnight trips and you can even earn badges and certifications. We have great instructors who will be able to help you improve your skills and show you how to really enjoy your time on the water.
Creation's Quest
Campers at Iona have a very exciting chance to live very close to nature. You will have the opportunity to enjoy all of God's creation by listening to the birds sing in the morning, watching the stars at night and keeping your eyes out for all the animals that live in your new front yard. While you're living in nature the camp staff will teach you a bit more about what you're seeing and how we protect the environment for future generations. There is the chance to learn about animals, fish, trees and everything else God put on this planet.
Outdoor Living Skills
Iona is so special because you get to sleep in a tent, cook over a fire and spend everyday outside. Your counselors will help you learn how to build shelters, build fires and survive in the wilderness. By the time you go home, there is a chance you may want to try sleeping in the yard!
Adventure!
One of the most exciting things at Iona is Adventure! When your unit chooses this activity you will have the opportunity to do things that are brand new to everyone. That's why it's an adventure. You might get to climb a rope or cross a river of molten lava or build a radio transmitter to talk to aliens. Adventure challenges your unit to work together, talk to each other, come up with a plan and get finished.
Camp Crafts
When you aren't canoeing on the lake or hanging out with your unit, you might have the opportunity to do Camp Crafts. You will be able to put your creative skills into action as you create towers or boats or entire cities. Camp Crafts is all about learning to use things in nature without damaging the forest and your counselor will have lots of ideas on how to make your crafts new, exciting and beautiful.
Music
Leave your iPod at home! At Iona, we make our own music and you can be a part of it. There are tons of camp songs to sing and opportunities every day to make a joyful noise. Once your unit masters a song or dance, they can share it with the whole camp at a campfire and fill the air with sounds of singing, laughing, guitar playing and drumming.
Stibe
Every day, you will have a chance to do a Bible Study with your unit. At Iona, we call this “stibe” and it is an important part of every day. Stibe has lot of singing, crafts, sharing and prayer and you will get to do all of it with your friends. The stibe will help you to better understand the love of Jesus and make it easier for you to incorporate Him into your life.
