Welcome to TRIUCHAN TAIRUS - Issue #2

Great Moments In Camping
We certainly are in the middle of winter here at Glen Mhor Camp. Over the holidays, the Resource Staff came to visit and we all walked across the lake to the island! We have been enjoying tobogganing down the hill to the lake, snowmobiling all over the site and snowshoeing on the trails. How different it all looks from the summer and how quiet!!

Well, that's just what we do in our spare time. Camp is a busy place these days as we prepare for another awesome season. We have schools all booked up for our Outdoor Centre in May and June and summer sessions are filling up quickly. If you have not yet registered, you will want to do so soon!

We are preparing these days for a session that we are leading at the Ontario Camping Association Conference on "Adventures in Spirituality", we are in the middle of hiring the staff (a very big job), we are working hard on our big fundraiser in April (news of that later), we are booking nurses for the summer weeks, and working closely with our camp board on budgets, finances and future building plans. We are also booking in church visits and preparing services. Please contact us soon if you would like us to visit your congregation.

So, although it is very white and cold outside, the camping season is first and foremost in our minds. We are thinking of you all and missing you very much. We look forward to seeing you at camp in the coming months!

You know you are a 1990's Glen Mhor Alumni when…

10) Your family and friends at home call all your friends by their camp names. They have have no idea who Amy, Joanna, Kate, Dale, Jen and Renee are, but they can immediately identify Turtle, Spark, Topaz, Zoic, Antsy and Peche.
9) You have enough Glen Mhor clothing to outfit yourself for a month without ever having to do laundry.
8) You have read "The Princess Bride", seen the movie a dozen times, know all the lines by heart and often say good-bye by saying "Have fun storming the castle!".
7) You know how to waltz.
6) You know the programme director's dance.
5) You saw the Bell van through its transformation into a Time Machine, a giant elephant, an FBI vehicle, The Magic School Bus (and experienced some hair-raising rides out to the L.I.T. site!)
4) You survived the Norwalk.
3) You saw the addition of the climbing wall, the zip-line, the aqua-jump, new canoe trips, more campers, more hiking trips… need we say more?
2) You go to church and find you know most of the words to the hymns by heart and by instinct begin looking around for a guitar and someone to lead everyone in 3 part harmony.
1) You know that 10 memories are far too few and you know that you would need to write a book to be able to record all of your GMIC's…

What is your top 10 list? Where you a 90's camper or staff member? Did you work for Glen Mhor in the 80's? 70's? 60's? or earlier? Were you a part of the Beaverton site Glen Mhor experience? We would love to hear more about the history of Glen Mhor from the perspective of our Glen Mhor family members. We are trying to re-establish ties with our Glen Mhor family of all generations and are currently creating an Alumni database. We look forward to celebrating Glen Mhor's 75th anniversary with all of you in the year 2005.
Please contact Heather "Sass" McCormick at glenmhorcampalumni@hotmail.com if you have any memories or stories that you would like to share, or if you know someone who would like to be added to our database.

In Memoriam

We once again take this time to remember in prayer the family of Rodio (Jay Cooke). We ask that God Grant them peace. We have decided that since Rodio loved to tell stories so much it would be best if we could find a story telling related memorial for him. This summer we will be dedicating our new Rodio Rocker to be placed by the fire place and used by staff whenever they read or tell us a story.

Glen Mhor Before Leaves

Work Weekends are a great chance to come to camp before the summer and help the staff with all of the work required to get camp up and running. On the May 3rd weekend, we invite people to come up to camp to help us clean up the lodge, sort out the kitchen and wash some windows. On the weekend of May 25th, we will be working on a bunch of construction and maintenance projects. These will include roofing, painting, strapping drywall and clean up. Glen Mhor will be supplying all of the meals and everyone is welcome to stay for either Friday or Saturday or both nights.

Winter at Camp

Have you ever wondered what camp looks like in the winter? We have had such a big response from campers who wanted more picutres of camp in the winter that we have included a couple more. We have had the snowmobiles out since New Years, we cleared part of the swimming area for a rink and some of the resource staff were up for a tobagganing party (click on the thumbnails to see the full sized picture).

Teen Week Reunion:

We are excited to post a few pictures from our December Teen Week Reunion to the website. We will post this type of link only to people who subscribe to Triuchan Tairus. Here are some pictures of Reunion at Thornhill Presbyterian Church (click on the thumbnails to see the full sized picture).
