Welcome to TRIUCHAN TAIRUS - Issue #7

February 2005

CAMP THESE DAYS

Well….it’s very white! The lake has been frozen over since November and, despite the two thaws we have had so far this winter, there is a lot of snow. We have just finished our first hiring day of 2005 and are looking forward to our Counsellor Day on the 5 th of February. Our church services began last Sunday (St. Andrew’s, Orillia ) and we have spent our weekends and evenings at board meetings. We were at the Ontario Camping Conference last week. This is always a great opportunity to spend 3 days connecting with other camp directors and gleaning new ideas and information to make Glen Mhor even better!

We head “south” on the 4 th for the East Toronto ’s Youth Toboggan Party held at St. John’s in Toronto . (for details, see below). This promises to be an awesome time for teens so please come out and join us.

We head into February with a full plate (overflowing, actually) and a growing excitement for the season ahead!

REGISTRATIONS

Teen Week only has a handful of spots left, Intermediate Canoe Trip is full and Adventure Camp (girls) is all booked up. How exciting for Glen Mhor and Christian camping in our Synod. If you have not already registered, please do so soon to avoid missing out on the session of your choice. This summer, why not bring along a friend to enjoy the awesome Glen Mhor experience?!

THE GLEN MHOR OUTDOOR CENTRE

The year 2005 will see the 6th year of our Outdoor Education Centre. In the spring, Glen Mhor will welcome school groups for 3 or 4 day programmes.

Bring your classmates to camp in the spring and get a jump-start on the summer fun!

For an information package, contact Zoic or Topaz or click on the “Outdoor Centre” link on our website.

ADOPT A CABIN

It’s time to stain the rest of our cabins. This is a great project for your Youth Group or other congregational organization (e.g. session, women’s committee). If you or your group is interested in coming to camp in May or June to work on one of our cabins or, if you are unable to come to camp but would like to donate the funds to stain a cabin, please contact Travis at camp.

TEEN WEEK REUNION

Thanks to all our great teen campers, lits, and staff who turned out in December for our annual Teen Week Reunion. It was great to see all of you and to share in the fellowship and laughter. Thanks for bringing in your canned goods; you made it a better Christmas for so many at Evangel Hall.

Photos will be available on the website when the new site goes live.

SYNOD NEWS

The new Synod Camp Board met again on January 19 th in Barrie . We are currently meeting monthly and are working together to come up with a plan that works best for the entire Synod’s camping ministry. This is a very exciting time for camping ministry! If you belong to a Presbyterian congregation in this Synod, please make sure that your Session takes the time to discuss the future of camping and to fill in the questionnaires that were circulated to each church. The responses are due back to Peter Bloom, Synod Camp Board Convenor, by the 31 st of March. If your congregation did not receive a package, please contact camp.
