Welcome to TRIUCHAN TAIRUS - Issue #12
January 2006
Happy New Year One and All! May God richly bless you and your family this coming year.
Zoic, Topaz and Taps
Welcome to our January Newsletter. At the end of each month, we put up a new online newsletter to keep you up to speed on all the “goings on” within our Glen Mhor Family. We welcome your contributions, emailed photographs, and updates.
Camp These Days
It may be January in Muskoka but it’s awfully wet outside! It is rainy and miserable and all our beautiful snow is melting. Not to worry, we are sure that winter is far from over up here in this neck of the woods.
We are thrilled to report that working with our new Associate Director, Adam “Taps” Brown, is going swimmingly. He is full of energy, great ideas and loves to work hard. We are all going to benefit from having him full-time at camp.
Life in Synod camping is pretty hectic these days but God has blessed us with a wonderful job. We are gearing up now not for one camping programme but for two! The plans to open the Iona programme in Baysville are well underway and we can’t wait to have the Iona staff, campers and parents join our camp family. We hope to announce the new name for the Baysville property very shortly. We will be keeping the names, Glen Mhor and Iona, to represent the two differing programmes that we will be offering.
Shortly, you will be able to see the sessions offered online for the Iona programme as we finish sorting out the website details.
In the meantime, don’t forget to register for your favourite Glen Mhor session soon! Our sessions are filling quickly so don’t be disappointed.

Parking: There is street parking on Broadview and Simpson with a very small lot behind the church, entrance off Simpson Ave (which is one way heading west), also there is some parking on the west side of Broadview behind Bridgepoint Hospital quite close to the hill as well as a municipal parking lot (the furthest) just west of Broadview on Gerrard.
What to Bring: Signed Permission forms and money for each person, sleds and toboggans. Warm clothes. One adult chaperone for every 5 children. If you have extra toboggans or sliding paraphernalia please bring it along. RSVP to Laurie 416-466-6099 by January 30th
Agenda:
6:30 pm: Registration and Hot Dog Dinner. Please come to the side door on Simpson Ave. to sign in. We will need a signed permission form for each child handed in at that time in order for them to participate. We would appreciate it if the leader from each church collect their forms and hand them in as a group to save time.
7:00 pm: Tobogganing
We will try to set up a central point for our group, roughly near the crosswalk. There will be a cell phone there. Watch for the glittery Santa Hats. Easy hills are near the south end of the park and the steep hills are north of the crosswalk. .There will be someone at the church all evening to receive anyone who needs to come back for any reason. Anyone returning to the church must be accompanied by an adult or older buddy.
Safety tips: Only start down the hill when it is clear and once you are down, get up immediately and look up the hill. Continually watch for people coming down as you walk back up. This is the best way to avoid any accidents.

Teen Week Reunion
Thanks to all our great teen campers, lits, and staff who turned out in December for our annual Teen Week Reunion. It was great to see all of you and to share in the fellowship and laughter. Thanks for bringing in your canned goods; you made it a better Christmas for so many.
There are a few pictures here. If anyone else has more pictures I would love to put them up. Email me the pictures or send a link.
Synod News
Our Synod Camp Board is working hard to get all necessary things in place to have our new ‘entity’ up and running. We are focusing our energy on getting the Iona site, staffing and registrations all in order as well as making sure that the Glen Mhor programme gets its annual tweak and check to ensure things are better than ever!
We are looking forward to working with Dorothy Lake and our two Music Camps as they prepare for another successful season in 2006.
Registrations
Teen Week only has a handful of spots left; Intermediate Canoe Trip (girls) and Adventure Camp (girls) are all booked up. How exciting for Glen Mhor and Christian camping in our Synod. If you have not already registered, please do so soon to avoid missing out on the session of your choice. This summer, why not bring along a friend to enjoy the awesome Glen Mhor experience?!
If you would like a 2006 brochure sent to you or a friend, please contact Camp by email or telephone and give us the name and complete address including postal code.
Church Visits
We are inviting our campers to join us for church visits in the New Year. Please check our website for the dates. If we are coming to a church near you, please contact us. We would love to have you help with our presentations!
If you would like us to visit your congregation, please contact us as soon as possible to book a date. With the help of our staff teams, we are able to visit more than one congregation per Sunday so you are welcome to book a date that already has a congregation’s name beside it.
Our current bookings are:
Feb 12 – First, Collingwood
Feb 19 – Armour Heights, Toronto
Feb 26 – Glenview, Toronto
The Glen Mhor Outdoor Centre
The year 2006 will see the 7th year of our Outdoor Education Centre. In the spring, Glen Mhor will welcome school groups for 3 or 4 day programmes.
Bring your classmates to camp in the spring and get a jump-start on the summer fun!
For an information package, contact Taps at taps@ilovecamp.org or 905.859.6661 or click on the “Outdoor Centre” link on our website.
Adopt a Cabin
It’s time to stain the rest of our cabins. This is a great project for your Youth Group or other congregational organization (e.g. session, women’s committee). If you or your group is interested in coming to camp in May or June to work on one of our cabins or, if you are unable to come to camp but would like to donate the funds to stain a cabin, please contact Travis at camp.
Calling All Alumni
We are hoping to further develop our network of all alumni. If you know of anyone who has ever been a camper or staff member at GM, please have them drop us a line with their name, camp name and home and email addresses.
Look for our alumni page on our website!
Staff News
- Taps Of course the biggest staff news is the full time addition of Taps to the Synod Camping staff. He began in mid December and we are so thrilled to have him join the team full time. He is concentrating his efforts on all the programmes of our camps and will be the face you see at our church visits and camp fairs.
- Pêche and Iggy Our congratulations go to alumni Brad ‘Pêche’ Cross and Kandice ‘Iggy’ MacMillan who became engaged at Glen Mhor (where they first met) on December 29th. We wish them nothing but happiness in their future together.
