Our Board

We are blessed to have an amazing board of dedicated members who lend their time and talents to camp. If you would like more information about the Synod Camp Board, or if you are interested in joining the Camp Board, please email our Convenor at [email protected].

Natasha Crompton-Dunn - Interim Convenor

c[email protected]
Natasha "Plinko" Crompton-Dunn joined the board in 2012 as the secretary - she was eager to get her feet wet and take detailed notes at every meeting! Currently, she advises in the area of marketing and promotions.  Natasha has been attending camp for over 20 years in all different capacities: a camper, an LIT, camp staff, and alumni. She cherishes the time spent on staff from 2000-2005 where she held many roles including Counsellor, Music & Drama, Adventure Programming, Integration, and the Outdoor Education Centre Director.
All the joys at camp eventually led her to her career in education.  She is an elementary school teacher in Halton and loving every minute of her fast-paced job. She enjoys leadership development and any opportunities where she can take a facilitator or mentor role within her school and school board.
In her spare time, she can be found watching Netflix with Topia and Scout, having amazing adventures with old camp friends, and planning the next camping or travel adventure.

Lisa Riess – Human Resources

Lisa "Flint" Riess joined the board in May 2012 and has oversight of the Human Resources function.
Lisa was first introduced to the camping world in 1983 when her mom was the camp nurse at Glen Mhor. She quickly fell in love with the beautiful surroundings, great friends and camp community and was hooked for life! A long time camper, staff member, alumni and now board member, Lisa continues to dedicate her time to a place she holds so dear.
In her day-to-day life Lisa is a duo-property Human Resources Manager in the hospitality industry. Lisa has a diploma in Hospitality Management as well as a Post Graduate diploma in Human Resources Management and is currently studying Psychology at McMaster University.
She enjoys spending time with her family, traveling and the arts.

Victoria Leigh – Secretary

[email protected]
Victoria 'Swoosh' Leigh first attended camp with her awesome youth group (St. Andrews Brampton) and was eventually convinced to 'let go' and send her kids to Cairn as well. Now a member and Christian Education Chair at Rosedale Presbyterian Church in Toronto, she joined the Camp Board in January 2017 as Board Secretary. Victoria is committed to promoting and supporting inclusion both at camp and in the wider church.  She very much enjoyed her brief time as camp chaplain last summer and loves getting messy on work weekend.  By day, Victoria is a high school English teacher with the TDSB.

Susan Young – Business Operations

[email protected]
Susan joined the board September 2017, focusing on the Client Experience and Business Operations. She has a long history in the camping community, both attending and working at camps from the age of 7 to 22. She believes camp is a place where children grow and develop the skills that lead them into adulthood. She has a deep relationship with Cairn through her own children attending and extended family, who have been both campers and staff.
Susan has 20+ years in business focusing on both operational and strategic management for companies such as CIBC & IBM. Currently she works at CIBC as a Senior Director in the area of supporting the Client Experience. Her first career as a Social Worker, working with both latency and adolescents for 15 years, ensures she always put the people experience first. Susan has  dedicated her professional career to not settling to the concept that “this is the way it has always been done” but to be an industry leader in moving teams forward, to ensure the best customer experience.
In her free time she loves spending time with her children and large extended family.

Rick Shaver – Treasurer

[email protected]
Rick "Walka" Shaver joined the board in October of 2017 in the role of Treasurer to contribute as he could to the camp he has grown to love.  He did not attend camp as a child but was introduced by his wonderful wife, herself an alumni who had grown up at camp and spent years as a counselor and program head.  His interest grew in 2015 when he and his wife jumped in to fill the roles of Head of Maintenance and Kitchen Manager for a season.  Rick is a business analyst at the Nipissing District Social Services Administration Board and studied business majoring in accounting at Nipissing University.  He enjoys spending time outdoors, playing with his children, camping and canoeing, wood-working, and playing ukulele.

Spencer Brown – Fundraising

[email protected]
Spencer “Glarez” Brown joined the Board in October 2017 and oversees fundraising for camp. Spencer was first introduced to camp as a Glen Mhor camper and moved through the camp program as a LIT, counsellor, resource staff and now alumni. She received her 10-year paddle in 2015. As Cairn holds a very special place in her heart, she is delighted to be a member of the Board to continue to support this very worthwhile ministry.
In addition to completing her degree in business at York, Spencer is working on her Fundraising Certificate at Ryerson, ultimately to gain her designation as a CFRE. She currently works in fundraising for both MLSE Foundation and the Blue Jays’ Jays Care Foundation
Spencer also volunteers with Girl Guides of Canada as a Spark leader and enjoys theatre, travelling, and trying to teach her rescue dog Merlin the concept of “fetch.”
